Gift Card Purse

I’m not sure I’d wear this Gift Card Purse, but I do appreciate the idea. Plus, I’m relieved to find out that I’m not the only who has trouble throwing away empty gift cards! If you sew the nice purse lining in the tutorial, it is a usable purse – for practically free! Added to [...]

CRAFT Pattern: My Fair Ladybug, by Vickie Howell

When I was 3 or 4 years old, my mom knit me a ladybug vest and skirt. Man, I loved that outfit! Unfortunately, the original was lost in the great hand-me-down beyond. Still to this day though, I appreciate the cuddly kitsch of the ensemble; so much so that I decided to create new version for my own daughter. Enter the My Fair Ladybug set - updated with a micro-mini skirt and an ode-to-the-80s boxy vest. For texture (and fanciness), I used a dimple stitch pattern and knit the pieces up in a pop-y green - the Chartreuse(ish) from my Sheep(ish) yarn line. Lastly, the ladybug touch is added with some simple embroidery. The result, well, is a set of nostalgic knits!

It's been pretty warm here in the Midwest, so I've been enjoying Ed Platt's PenFlakes project. At least I can pretend it's cooler out with these hand-drawn snowflakes, right?

Help Japan

Help Japan [1] by Rob Dobi, found at Design Crush [2]. Here are a bunch of ways you can help Japan right now. I'm encouraged to see how many people are making, organizing and creating ways to raise funds. Ciao Samin is organizing a US-wide Bakesale for Japan [3] on Apr. 2nd, and here in Seattle it looks like it will be happening at the Cakespy shop. If you can help or are able to give a corporate sponsorship get in touch at bakesaleforjapan@gmail.com, see all the details here [4]. (Last year they raised $23K for Haiti, behold the power of a bakesale.) At Design Crush there are two round ups: Help Japan [5] and More Ways to Help Japan [6]. A Practical Wedding [7] is giving all of today's proceeds to the UJA Japan Earthquake Relief Fund [8]. Tea and Cookies, who lived in Japan for a number of years, lists all the organizations you can donate to [9], and she shares photographs of her time there. Old Sweet Song [10] talks about the day of silence on a bunch of blogs today and talks about the For Japan With Love [11] disaster relief organization that they are raising awareness for. Design Mom shows some simple and striking Help Japan [12] prints. Rakka Deer [13] is donating all proceeds from selected items in her Etsy shop [14] to aid for Japan. I dig the Atari controller card set. Here in Seattle Frantic Foodie is holding a Pancake Breakfast [15] tomorrow, Saturday March 19 between 8:30am and 2:30pm at Prune Kitchen [16]. They will be raising funds for the American Red Cross and Peace Winds America. two additions: Wise Craft [17] and Posie Gets Cozy [18] both have round ups of people and artists raising funds and ways you can contribute. more: Shelterrific has a good list [19] of fundraising done by familiar names.
