By Jessica Wilson

You may already know that I am a HUGE fan of garlands and bunting. So I don't think it should be too surprising that I've got a nifty Fourth of July inspired garland up my sleeve for you. The color combo of red, white, and blue is often a crowd pleaser, so there is no need to save this just for July. Alternately, you can use any color combo you like as the supplies for this may already be in your humble supply stash. All you need is a little paint, a handful of index cards, and some ingenuity. Let's play!

links: Easter

I'm going to experiment with using more images in links posts. A lot of these were found using Pinterest [1], which I have been liking a lot. Minimal Easter Eggs [2] at Pickles. Very simple idea decorating eggs using white puffy paint, I love this. Instructables [3] project but I like these because she uses Golden Syrup, which I'm having a bit of a crush on at the moment. Wheat Grass at Design Mom. Good practical tips for growing wheat grass as a project for Spring. Crepe Paper Surprise Carrots [4], at Martha Stewart. Just like surprise balls [5] and pretty darn cute. Secret Message Easter Egg [6], made by Present&Correct [7] and seen over at Poppy Talk [8]. This is so sweet. Pixie Dust Easter Egg favor [9], at Family Fun. A very cute idea. Delicious Days [10]. Knitting with Unseen Attributes

pheromone socks.jpg

chilli sweater.jpg

There may not appear to be anything unusual about this pair of socks and this sweater made by Jenny Willknitt, but it's what you don't see that makes them unique.

"Podophilia" [are] socks infused with pheromones to empower women to feel more confident about their feet by making them the object of male fascination...

But that's nothing compared to "Sweater Curse."

An emotional insurance policy, this sweater is made from chilli soaked garden twine spun with a soft alpaca coating. If the sweater's recipient leaves the knitter then revenge is wrought as the sweater gets itchier and they get chilli burns, if the sweater curse proves false then the knitter can make them a new sweater.

Yikes.

June Bazaar: Tools for Organizing

By Susan Beal

gray inspiration board organizing bazaar.jpg

Magnetic Inspiration Board

These sleek, stylish magnetic fabric boards by are paired with covered-button magnets in the same prints - an easy, beautiful way to make an ever-changing inspiration board, or keep your important papers or project receipts handy in your craft room, kitchen or bedroom. MooreMagnets makes these in sizes from 10" x 10" to 24" x 24" and they mount right onto a wall. I really love the stems and leaves pattern and the Amy Butler Optic Blossom fabric versions - the unframed squares are so beautifully simple.

Expedit Shelves

There are so many ways to use this versatile open shelving from Ikea in a craft room for organizing and storage - I like to cover simple cardboard boxes with scanned fabric to hold my color-coded scraps, while Rachel mentioned earlier this month that she hoped to make a cutting table that doubles as fabric storage for her new studio space with this clever project from Jamie at Prudent Baby.

Ojo de Dios by Jay Mohler

jay_mohler_gods_eyes.jpg

I remember the god's eyes crafts from summer camp, but these works of art from Jay Mohler blow those clean out of the water.

I've been making Ojos de Dios ever since seeing such yarn and stick mandalas in almost the exact form made by Huicholi natives of Mexico, and lamas from Tibet. Later I made many Ojos de Dios (Spanish for Eyes of God) in a Navajo 8-sided design, when "ojos" were a popular folk art in the 1970's American Southwest. Much more recently I've mostly made 12-sided Ojos de Dios, which I believe can represent a whole panorama of spiritual cosmologies ..... although for myself, I create these for artistic satisfaction rather than as any sort of spiritual talisman.

pegboard.jpg

There's a good reason why pegboard has been around forever, and is such a common solution for organizing tools. It's inexpensive, easily painted, and so simple to customize with a variety of readily-available hooks.

DIY Life has a nice round-up of ways to use pegboard for crafty and cooking storage. Even if it's not your dream organization solution, it's a dandy way to get you organized while you're saving up.
